It could have been a better book having focused on a smaller cast of characters and simply giving cameos to some of the other players, it ended up feeling like no character in particular really got his or her share of the lime light. It’s not clear exactly. On other other hand, though, Alara was unborken current set when I started getting interested in Magic again, and I really liked it as a setting. This is only my opinion but I feel it would have given more pages for storytelling and development, which would have made for a great series, instead of a very enjoyable single novel.
